Hi, I'm Sonja

I am glad you are here.

I spent decades inside schools as a classroom teacher in both general and special education, and then as a principal.

That experience gave me a front-row view of what families often try to navigate: developmental concerns, academic struggles, behavior, evaluations, special education, school meetings, and the uncertainty of knowing your child needs more support but not knowing what to do next.

As a school leader, I sat across from parents during some of the hardest conversations of their lives. I saw what helped families feel heard and what made the process more confusing. I also learned how schools think, how decisions get made, and where communication can break down.

That’s what led me here.

I hold a Master’s in Educational Leadership, and my years as a teacher, special education teacher, and principal give me a perspective that goes well beyond traditional parent coaching. I understand both the parent experience and the school system. My role now is to help families understand what is happening, prepare for important conversations, and make informed decisions about what their child needs.

How I Work With Parents

Here's what I've learned in this work.

Most parents do not need more jargon or another stack of information. They need someone who can help them slow the process down, understand what matters, and decide what to do next.

That’s how I work.

I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, review what is happening at school and at home, and help you identify your biggest concerns. Together, we make sense of the process, prepare for meetings or decisions, and create a clear plan for moving forward.

When advocacy is needed, I help you prepare for the conversation and stay focused on what your child needs. I believe in working with the school when that is productive. I also believe parents should speak up clearly when something important is being missed or is not working.

Faith and Values

My background also includes a Master of Divinity, which shapes how I show up in this work. I approach every family with deep respect for the values, beliefs, traditions, and experiences that matter to them. Those things often shape how parents understand their child, make decisions, and define what is important in their family.

My role is not to bring a particular perspective into the room. It is to understand yours and make sure the support we build together reflects what matters most to you and your family.

What I Believe About You

The throughline across everything I have done,  teaching, leading schools, coaching parents, has been helping people feel seen, think clearly, and move forward with more confidence.

I believe that's true for you, too.

You know your child better than anyone. You may not know the terminology, the process, or exactly what to ask for, but you already bring something essential to the table: your knowledge of your child.

My role is not to take over. It is to help you understand the system, sort through your options, prepare for important conversations, and advocate with greater clarity and confidence.

You do not have to know all the answers to begin. You just need a place to start.
